Buy a bag for $5 and fill ‘er up with all the vintage clothing you can fit inside at Mintage! This would be a good, cheap way to experiment around with vintage clothing as costumes or to bring out your inner fashion designer and alter clothes without having to pay a lot $$ if you screw up!
Where: 1714 Commercial Drive
When: 10am to 4pm
The sale is at our Commercial Drive location, around back in the alley, there won’t be any access through the store (which will be business as usual, so feel free to stop in and check it out). It will be all vintage clothing – mens, womens, dresses, pants, shirts, skirts, and accessories.
I remember when Portoabello West first started over two years (?) ago and I had coincidentally just gotten back from London not too long before that after having visited the REAL Portobello Market there! Anyway, Vancouver’s Portabello West is very typical of our local artist and designer scene with heavy ties to Fashion High. Think high-end craft fair and boutique-style products. Great for finding one-of-a-kind gifts.
Where: Rocky Mountaineer Station (101 – 369 Terminal Avenue)
When: 12pm to 6pm
Admission: $2 (children 12 and under get in for free)
If you’re not driving, the best way to get there is probably to take the Skytrain to the Main Street Science World station and walk for ten minutes to Rocky Mountaineer Station.
Receive Free Standard Shipping with any online purchase at MAC Cosmetics. Use offer code COOLHEAT at checkout. This offer is valid through 11:59 pm EST (so 9:00pm Vancouver time) on Wednesday June 25, 2008 on orders shipped to US and Canadian addresses.
Support local designers at the Allison Wonderland and Refine jewellery design tomorrow at 210-309 West Cordova Street!
Be one of the first to check out the GUESS grand reopening on 1168-70 Robson Street on June 18th from 10am to 10pm. If you’re someone who likes to have everything categorized and “confirmed” on Facebook, check out the Facebook event information here. I don’t think this opening will be as anticipated as the crazy H&M grand opening but might as well check Guess out if you’re on a downtown lunch break or something like that :).
**I went to GUESS on Robson today and it turns out they’re not opening until tomorrow June 19th.
HEY to all the (aspiring) fashion designers out there. The 2nd season of Project Runway Canada will be airing in Winter 2009. If you think you have the creativity and talent to be on the show, APPLY here. But make up your mind sooner rather than later because the deadline is on Friday, June 20th at 6:00PM ET.
So what’s Project Runway? It’s basically a reality TV series; each episode features a themed challenge (ie. design a dress inspired by the word “hope” for a charity auction with proceeds to fund aids research in Africa) and the competitors have a limited amount of time to complete the challenge. At the end of the episode, their model partner walks down the catwalk in their fashion creation and a panel of judges decide on who gets eliminated!
I wouldn’t write an entry about clothing sales if I didn’t think it was a good deal: Off The Wall is having their summer clothing sale. Despite Vancouver’s crappy June weather, this would be a good time to stock up for summer. I went and checked out the downtown location during my lunch break yesterday and the deals are pretty good if you’re looking for casual brand wear. From Adidas to Zoo York, Off The Wall carries a wide array of stylish brands…for girls. (It used to have guys’ clothing too but then the male section faded away…) There’s graphic t-shirts (some printed on organic material), a huge wall of denim selection (with brands including Mavi, Silver, Song, etc.), cloth and cotton dresses (beach wear?) and lots of what I would call “surf and skate brands” like Billabong and Roxy. Anyhoo, I wouldn’t go out of my way to go to Off the Wall, but if you’re in the neighbourhood of downtown, Metrotown, Coquitlam Centre or Richmond Centre (to name a few), stop by a take a look.
