If you don’t know anything about Taiko, checking out the Mid-Summer Taiko Beat at Centennial Theatre (2300 Lonsdale Avenue) in North Vancouver would be a great place to start learning. Presented by the Vancouver Taiko Society, this concert is a great experience, as it brings together groups from different regions, so you get a taste of different styles of taiko. Some are more traditional, while others are pushing the envelope of what we know to be taiko. While your typical taiko concert in Vancouver will feature mainly Vancouver groups, and 1 or 2 at most, this concert gives you a little taste of everything
Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for children under 12 and seniors, and are available through the Centennial Theatre box office at 604-984-4484. This concert will feature Japanese drumming groups LOUD (Vancouver), Sawagi Taiko (Vancouver), Kiyoshi Nagata + Aki Takahashi (Toronto), and Inochi Taiko (Seattle).
